LAUREL — The Laurel City Council received an update on the Community Center project on June 12.
Community Center committee co-chairs, Keith and Karen Knudsen and Jim and Lanita Recob, presented a financial and fundraising update on the facility during the council’s regular meeting.
Mayor Keith Knudsen reported that AMGL, P.C., the City of Laurel’s accounting firm, has reviewed and validated all financial transactions pertaining to the construction and fundraising of the new Community Center through April 30 of this year.
Jim Recob gave an overview of the financial report to the council regarding the $4.2 million Community Center project.
As of May 31 of this year, the facility’s fundraising committee has $65,000 in outstanding pledges from individuals and businesses that will be received over the next three years.
The collection of these pledges will fulfill the committee’s financial commitment to the project.
Karen Knudsen gave an overview of grants. She reported that all grant requirements have been fulfilled and that $1,341,546 in grant monies have been received for the Community Center project.
In other business, the City Council approved: - The contract with Hillcrest Care Center Administrator Megan Wieck, who has gone from part-time to fulltime in the position.
- Updated personnel policies and handbook for Hillcrest Care Center.
- The following building permits: 1. Dan Junck – 12-by-18-foot shed on concrete slab.
2. Alex Sullivan and Jaime Mayhew – 79-by-86-foot wooden fence.
3. Marcy Twohig – 6-by-10.5foot addition.
4. Brad Chase – 16-by-24-foot garage with a 3-foot concrete approach on the north and east sides.
5. Zeth and Linsay Rager – 20-by-15-foot patio, 35-by-48-foot chain-link fence and 50-by-16-foot driveway to Lonsdale Street.
6. Josh Hart – 78-by-26-foot driveway addition.
