WYNOT — The Wynot Expos dropped an extra-inning game to the Crofton Bluejays, 3-2, on June 18.
The Bluejays scored in the top of the 10th inning to slip past the Expos and leave Wynot 2-3 on the 2023 baseball season.
Crofton scored first in the third inning on a one-out double, a wild pitch and a ground-out to shortstop. The Expos have struggled with defense thus far this season and the game against Crofton was no exception, as Wynot committed four errors on the night.
Devin Lammers got the Expos right back in it in the fifth when he blasted a home run over the leftfield wall with one out.
David Schenk followed the homer with a single, but back-to-back pop outs ended the threat and the inning.
The score remained 1-1 until the seventh when Crofton scored on an error with two outs in the inning.
Wynot tied it up again in the eighth after Ryan Heimes walked to open the Expos’ half of the frame.
Jackson Sudbeck moved Heimes to second on a bunt and he advanced to third on a ground-out to second base.
Lee Heimes stroked a single to score Ryan Heimes, but the inning ended with a strikeout.
Wynot went down in order in the ninth before Crofton’s 10th put the Expos behind again by a single run.
Crofton struck out the first two Wynot batters in the 10th before Jackson Sudbeck worked a walk.
Landon Wieseler was then hit by a pitch, but a ground ball to the pitcher ended the game by the 3-2 final score.
The Expos are set to return to South Central South Dakota League action June 22 at the Tabor (S.D.) Bluebirds before a game June 25 at the Mad Frogs in Menno, S.D.
