PONCA - The Randolph Senior Legion game against Ponca was suspended after the fourth inning due to an on-field collision that left a Ponca player seriously injured.
The senior team was looking for its third win of the season Monday night but the game didn’t start well either.
Ponca piled on a combined six runs in the first two innings. After a shutout inning in the bottom of the third, the seniors looked to do the same in the bottom of the fourth. During action, a Ponca player attempted to steal second base when he collided with the shortstop attempting to catch a toss from the catcher.
Play stopped as the Ponca player was removed from the game by ambulance with potential head and jaw injuries.
The game was suspended and the remaining innings will be played when Ponca visits Randolph for regularly scheduled games Tuesday, July 18.
With the game being cut short, there was only one pitcher for Randolph who threw more than one pitch - Aiden Gubbels.
He threw out 90 pitches with three strikeouts. Gabe Wortman pitched one ball and will take to the pitcher’s mound when the game resumes on July 18.
The seniors managed one hit in the four innings of play by Isaiah Salmon - a grounder which snuck past the first baseman.
The seniors’ next game will see them facing off against Twin Rivers Thursday, June 15.
