NORFOLK — The Northeast Nebraska All-Star Football Classic is fast approaching and plenty of area talent will be on hand.
The game is set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Norfolk’s Memorial Field. Playing for the red team will be Sutton Ehlers, Jake Rath and Colby Casey of Laurel-Concord-Coleridge; Lane Heimes, of Hartington- Newcastle; Carson Arens, Jay Steffen, Grant Arens and Jaxson Bernecker of Cedar Catholic, and Jaxson Claussen and Josh Wattier of Wausa.
“It is a tremendous honor for our athletes, our program and our school,” LCC head coach Alan Gottula said. “Kolby, Sutton and Jake were all three-year starters on our football team and most dese rving of this recognition and will no doubt make the most of this opp ortunity to put the pads on one last time.”
Cedar’s Steffen is excited to go up against some “great players ” while also going one last round with so many teammates from his four years with the Trojans.
“I know a lot of the guys and I think we’ll get along alright, ” Steffen said of playing with rivals. “High School is over now so we can mov e on.”
Ehlers said he is looking forward to knocking helmets with a bu nch of guys he has either played with or against.
“It should be a good time,” he said. “I’ ll be out there making the most of it – my last football game, you know?
“I feel like I did the best I could in high school and it was f un while it lasted and I enjoyed the guys I played with.”
