HARTINGTON — The home of Frank Hochstein, about 12 miles north of Hartington, was the scene of a terrible murder this morning at 2 o’clock.
A double wedding had occurred at that place during the day, and in the evening, a general good time was had.
About 20 kegs of beer constituted part of the refreshments, and at about 2 in the morning, the boys commenced feeling rather too good and a little fight ensued.
Henry Lansing, one of Cedar County’s most respected citizens, was stabbed in the right shoulder and died in about three minutes.
John Koch, the accused murderer, was brought to town by the sheriff this forenoon.
The coroner held an inquest this morning.
The German citizens are at a fever heat and talk of lynching prevails.
Relatives of the accused were in town today and want young Koch taken from the jail. They fear that the threats may be carried into effect.
Koch is a young man, not 20 years of age. His parents are highly respected in this county.
Koch was called on at the jail today, but he declined to answer any questions, saying that they will find out everything when his trial comes off.
Lansing will be buried tomorrow by the Grand Army of the Republic. The deceased leaves a widow and several children and was about 60 years of age.
