NORTH PLATTE — Reinhold “Reiny” H. Burbach, 98, North Platte, died May 22, 2023. He was born Jan. 23, 1925, in Hartington. Adams and Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. His parents were Werner and Thersa (Schmidt) Burbach. He graduated from Holy Trinity Catholic High School. In 1945, he joined the United States Army Infantry and had basic training at Camp Walters, Texas. While on leave, he married Martha A. Langferman July 9. He was stationed at the Pacific Theatre Manilla and later, at Kyuisa Island of Japan, during WWII. He received an honorable discharge in October 1946. Reiny and Martha made their home in Hartington. They operated an ice cream bar. Reiny went on to work for Curtis Candy Company for six years. In 1956, he was appointed as a State Farm Insurance agent. They moved to North Platte in 1961, when he was promoted as a District Manager with State Farm Insurance, and he retired in 1991.

Reiny was a life member of the Benevolent and Patriotic Order of Elks #985, a past Commander of VFW #5283, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2839, and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #551. He was a 4th Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus. Reiny was a Charter Member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish and Trustee for nine years. He served on the North Platte Catholic Schools Endowment Board of Directors. For 30 years he managed the Bingo Activity at the KC Hall by creating teams, ordering supplies, and counting all the proceeds which were given to the North Platte Catholic Schools.

He enjoyed family gatherings, visiting friends and relatives (nearby and far away), playing cards, and traveling.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Martha; his son, Randy Burbach; his daughter, Barb Waldschmidt; his parents; five brothers, Senator Julius Burbach, Rudy Burbach, Gerald Burbach, Theodore Burbach and Peter Burbach; two sisters, Leone Wortman and Rosemary White; and a son-in-law, Jim Waldschmidt.

He is survived by two sons, Bill (Suzanne) Burbach, Belmont, N.H., and Kevin (Denise) Burbach, Vail, Ariz.; Randy’s wife, daughter-in-law, Denise Burbach; two daughters, Rosemary (Ron) Jones, North Platte, and Karlene (Dave) Hoedel, Walled Lake, Mich.; two sisters, Rita Isom and Monica Moser; 13 grandchildren, Shawn Burbach, Omaha; Brian (Laura) Burbach, Belmont, N.H.; Heather Burbach, Ormond Beach, Fla.; Jennifer (Bryan) Enander, Bradenton, Fla.; Heidi (Stacy) Winters, Omaha; Aaron (Allison) Jones, Ogallala; Sarah (John) Swanson of Omaha; Kay (Kelly) Burbach, Lincoln; Ann (Chad) Grunewaldt, Vermillion, S.D.; Craig Burbach, Lincoln; Adam (Brock) Burbach, Lincoln; Jamie (Brian) Kalisher, Livonia, Mich.; and Mandy Hoedel, Walled Lake, Mich.; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to North Platte Catholic School Endowment Fund or to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
