WYNOT – Colin Wieseler worked his way up to the No. 1 spot in his high school class before he graduated.

The 18-year-old was recognized as the valedictorian for the 15-member Wynot High School Class of 2023. His final grade-point average was 3.96.

'It feels amazing to know that you are a part of your school's history as valedictorian,' Colin said. 'When I found out, I was very excited to hear that.'

He noted he was really motivated to be his class' valedictorian because two of his siblings were also valedictorians of their respective classes – 2016 and 2019 – and his mother was salutatorian of her class in 1989.

'I have always felt the need to do good in school academically because growing up my parents pushed me to do so,' Colin said.

In addition to being the valedictorian of his class, he also received many local scholarships as well as the Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees Scholarship to Wayne State College.

Colin participated in several activities while in high school, including football, basketball, track and field, one act, speech, band and choir.

He is the youngest of Clair and Carol Wieseler’s four children, who also include Olivia, 25; Nate, 22; and Noelle, 20.

Colin’s summer schedule includes working at Leise Concrete in rural Hartington and playing baseball for Crofton’s American Legion team.

As for his future plans, he is set to go to Wayne State and major in education because he wants to be a teacher.

“The thing I will miss most about high school are the friends I’ve made,” Colin said. “I will also miss participating in sports.”
