RANDOLPH - The Cardinals were hoping to go back to state as a team for the second straight season but fell short after a disappointing district performance.

Randolph finished fifth overall out of 15 teams and missed qualification by eight shots.

“The consistent rounds we were looking for didn't materialize,” Randolph head coach Rob Engel said. “(Eight shots) sounds like a lot, but it's only one shot per guy on each nine holes, so we were really close to taking advantage of an off day by Howells-Dodge, which Hartington was able to do.

“In the end, it was a season of ups and downs, four different players medaled and led the team in different meets, and Bryson Eledge medaled in the last six regular season events.”

It was a solid season with much to look forward to next year, Engel said.

“We will miss the three seniors, but we bring back some solid players and look to be competitive again in 2024,” he said.

Eledge shot a 90 at districts, trailed by Aiden Gubbels (92) and Ajay Gubbels (99) while Shaw Backer (102) and Andy Hausmann (118) also contributed at the team’s final performance this season.
