LINCOLN, Neb. — A clinic to educate crop producers and others about early season management options is planned for March 19 at University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension’s South Central Ag Lab Research Farm near Hastings.
The South Central Agricultural Laboratory Crop Clinic is targeted at area crop producers but also will be useful to those advising producers such as crop consultants and fertilizer dealers, said Richard Ferguson, extension soil specialist.
LINCOLN, Neb. — The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is the only university selected to participate in a U.S. Department of Agriculture pilot project to develop quality management standards for field releases of regulated genetically-engineered crops.
UNL was selected by USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service following an application process, said Dan Duncan, assistant dean of UNL’s Agricultural Research Division. Four other participants selected for the biotechnology quality management system pilot project are private companies.
MEAD, Neb. — Corn and soybean growers are invited to attend the Nebraska Soybean and Feed Grains Profitability Project on-farm research update March 4 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Agricultural Research and Development Center near Mead.
The 9 a.m.-3 p.m. program will be at the August N. Christenson Research and Education Building.
Producers will obtain valuable crop production-related information from on-farm research projects conducted on Nebraska farms by Nebraska farmers.
LINCOLN, Neb. Crop scouts will learn how to better manage corn and soybean pests during a University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension Crop Scout Training for Pest Managers program March 16.
The training provides in-depth and detailed information from university specialists and private industry representatives.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and the workshop is from 9 a.m-5 p.m at the university’s Agricultural Research and Development Center near Mead.
LINCOLN, Neb. — A strong version of the Golden Rule comes into play when farmers decide to engage in soil conservation tillage practices, a University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension study suggests.
When determining what motivates farmers to practice conservation tillage, researchers found that a sense of empathy or “walk-in-their-shoes” mentality is clearly evident, according to research by Gary Lynne, professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics, and Robert Sheeder, a former master’s student and currently a program specialist with the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality.
LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska youth looking for a fun summer camp to attend need look no further than Nebraska 4-H Camps late May-early August near Gretna, Alma or Halsey, the director of Nebraska 4-H camp operations said.
Registrations now are being accepted for the Nebraska 4-H Camps and Centers, which are open to all youth. Campers who register before April 1 receive a 10 percent discount.
