Cedar boys earn a split

Cedar Catholic’s Jason Becker pulls up for a jumper during action Saturday at O’Neill. The Eagles got off to a fast start and the Trojans were never able to recover, falling 65-50 to the the MidStates Conference foe.

HARTINGTON – The Cedar Catholic boys earned a win over Bloomfield with ease after an electric second quarter that saw the Trojans drain 29 points. Riley Arens and Matthew Becker have continued their dual threat crusade.
Arens led the team with 19 points and seven steals on the night. The senior also had five rebounds and one assist. Matthew Becker nearly notched another double-double. Becker scored 14 points and had nine rebounds on the night.
Other than the second quarter, it was slow scoring for Cedar, but the Trojan defense held Bloomfield to just seven points in the second half. That allowed them to cruise to victory. The defense was impressive as a whole, as the Trojans out rebounded the Bees, and forced an abysmal 25 percent field goal percentage. In the second half, Bloomfield was only 2-17 from the floor.
