Obituary – Cleopha B. Schurman

Yankton, S.D. — Cleopha B. Schurman, 87 died Aug.19, 2017, surrounded by her family.
Visitations will begin at 4 p.m., Aug. 23, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Menominee, with a 7 p.m. wake service. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the Mass at the church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Aug. 24, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Menominee, with Rev. James Keiter officiating.
Burial with be in the St. Boniface Cemetery, Menominee.
Pallbearers are her sons, Ken Schurman, Dan Schurman, Mike Schurman, Duane Schurman, John Schurman, Tom Schurman, Dennis Schurman and David Schurman.
Honorary pallbearers are grandchildren, Seth and Ashley Schurman, Matt Gunderson and Jennifer Everson, Brett and Kevin Schurman, Christopher, Brandon and Amber Schurman, Rylee Schurman, Cody Sage, Brittany Sage, Tori Sage and six great-grandchildren.
The Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton is in charge of arrangements.
Cleopha was born Jan. 5, 1930, to William and Josephine (Schmidt) Schroeder at Crofton. She attended St. Boniface School through the eighth grade. She married Wilfred Schurman Nov. 21, 1950, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Menominee. They lived at Hartington for one and one half years before moving to the farm at Crofton, where she lived until the time of her death.
Cleopha loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spent many hours gardening and quilting, and in recent years, she enjoyed spending time with her Menominee Widows luncheon group. She kept busy doing crossword puzzles, word searches and coloring. Cleopha was a strong woman of faith, a member of the Christian Mothers and The Ladies Guild and prayed the rosary daily.
Survivors include her  ten children, Ken(Terri) Schurman, Crofton; Patty (Jim) Gunderson, Mission Hill, S.D.; Dan Schurman, Yankton, S.D.; Mike (Julie) Schurman, Yankton, S.D.; Duane Schurman, Yankton, S.D.; John (Jamee) Schurman, Lincoln; Jean Schurman, Norfolk; Tom Schurman, Great Falls, Mont.; Dennis Schurman, Battle Creek; and David Schurman, Crofton; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Emil Schroeder, Great Falls, Mont., and William (Valerie) Schroeder, Sioux Falls, S.D.; and two sisters, Lee Walz, Sacramento, Calif., and Mary Ann Dankert, Omaha.
Cleopha was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Wilfred; her parents, William and Josephine Schroeder; brothers, Roman and Mike Schroeder; and sister, Lorraine Tramp.
