HARTINGTON — A man with extensive Cedar County connections will be competing next week in the Summer Olympics in Rio.
Ben Pinkelman is part of the U.S. Rugby team. He was named to the Olympic team in late July. At 22, he is the youngest member of the USA Rugby Team. The team is currently ranked sixth in the world.
He is the son of 1983 Wynot High School graduate Harvey Pinkelman and the grandson of former Hartington residents Alphonse and Verna Pinkelman. His uncle, Dan Pinkelman, still lives in St. Helena. His aunt, Karen Lammers, lives south of Hartington with her husband, Ron.
Harvey said the rugby team arrived in Rio at 7 a.m., Tuesday. They will play their first game Aug. 9, at 11 a.m., against fifth-ranked Argentina.
