BATTLE CREEK — There is an old addage that says defense wins championships.
Cedar Catholic used their defensive prowess to take a huge step toward winning the District championship, with Friday’s 12-7 win over Battle Creek.
The Trojans’ lone touchdown of the night came on an interception and return by stand-out linebacker Stephen Hillis.
The Trojans also picked up another defensive score with a safety. Capp Bengston booted a field goal to round out the Cedar Catholic scoring.
Emotions ran high throughout the contest.
“I knew it would be a very intense game that would be decided by the kids up front on both sides of the ball,” Cedar Catholic Coach Chad Cattau said.
The battle of the trenches was a huge part of Friday’s win, Cattau said.
