American Legion Juniors earn split

HARTINGTON — The Hartington American Legion Juniors toped Neligh but fell to O’Neill during Elkhorn Valley Conference Tournament action last week.
Hartington now holds a 4-14 record on the year.
The local squad defeated Neligh 14-4, then fell to O’Neill 17-4 to end their tournament run.
Coach Robb Koerting was pleased with the way the team played against Neligh.
“The boys hit the ball very well — our approach at the plate was good all night long,” he said.
Hartington jumped out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to an Isaac Creamer lead-off double and a Riley Arens walk. Both runners eventually worked their way around the bases to score in the frame.
Hartington plated two more runs in the second frame, when Creamer and Anthony Heiman both scored.
