Laurel — Virgil Frank Buss, 88, Laurel, died Jan. 15, 2016.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Jan. 20, at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Laurel.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m., Jan. 21, at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, Laurel, with Rev. Jeff Warner officiating.
Private burial will be at the Stanton Cemetery, Stanton.
Hasemann Funeral Home, Laurel, is in charge of arrangements.
Virgil was born Dec. 16, 1927, in Norfolk, to Wilhelm Franz Heinrich “Frank” and Leona Wilhelmine (Blattert) Buss. He attended country school, Pilger High School and graduated from Norfolk High School in 1945. He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army April 25, 1946-Oct. 24, 1947. He married Donna June Nichols at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hoskins, Jan. 11, 1948. He retired in 2000 from the United States Postal Service as a Rural Mail Carrier.
His hobbies included golf, hunting, cards and bowling. Oct. 4, 2001, at the age of 73, he rolled a 701 series and Oct. 25, 2001, he rolled a perfect 300 game.
Virgil is survived by his wife of 68 years, Donna, Laurel; five children, Norman and Jean Buss, Lincoln; Barbara Moss, Mill Spring, Mo.; Beverly and Dennis Eby, Beatrice; Paula Engel, Laurel; Shelly Carstens, Creighton; nine grandchildren, Eric and Casey Buss, Godfrey, Ill.; Adam and Katie Buss, East Alton, Ill.; Jennie and Ryan Blodgett, Ashland; Kenneth and Kylee Moss, Mill Spring, Mo.; Rachelle Moss, Wartrace, Tenn.; Matthew and Tiffany Moss, Poplar Bluff, Mo.; Jenna and David Jerkins, Cyril, Okla.; Taylor Carstens, Creighton; Emily Carstens, Creighton; 17 great-grandchildren, Reece, Nolan, Calvin, Emery Buss; Noah, Nicholas Wilhite, Norah Blodgett; Alyssa Moss; Sierra, Leah Zeiler; Callei, Blaine, Adalyn Moss; Kenna Engel, Tre’Shawn Barlow, Bria, J’lyn Jerkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Leona Buss; his younger brother, Donovan Buss; and his brother, Robert Buss; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ralph and Pauline Nichols; son-in-law, Jerry Moss; aunt and uncle, Reuben and Helen Buss, who raised Virgil and Robert after their parents and brother were killed in a car accident in 1941; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Lorene Hintz; and other aunts, uncles and cousins, nephew and niece.
