Glencoe, Minn. — Rev. Frederick Seth Cook, 79, Norwood Young America, Minn., died Aug. 22, 2016, at GRHS Long Term Care, Glencoe, Minn.
Visitation and funeral services were held Aug. 25 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, NYA, Minn., with internment following at the church cemetery.
Fred was born March 31, 1937, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Harold and Catherine (Stock) Cook. He was baptized July 18, 1937. He graduated high school from Godwin Heights, Grand Rapids, Mich. He married Grace Ethel Calkin Dec. 14, 1957. He then entered the U.S. Air Force, from 1958-1962, where he flew refueling tanker planes in the pre-Vietnam War. He settled in Danville, Ill., until 1973, when he entered the Missouri Synod Seminary, Springfield, Ill. He was ordained at Trinity Lutheran Church, Danville. His first congregation was in Laurel.
Fred and Grace lived in Minnesota for the last 35 years. His missions in the Pacific were recently declassified and he became a member of the TAC Tankers Assoc. of America.
Fred is survived by his wife, Grace, NYA, Minn.; children, Kathleen “Mitzi” (Steve) Urwiler, Laurel; Andrew (Joy) Cook, NYA, Minn.; Elizabeth (Len) Gardner, Dryden, Ont., Canada; Hannah (Jeremy) Gatz, Montrose, Minn.; Alma Cook and Jordan Storms, Carver, Minn.; and Abbey (Christopher), Watertown, Minn.; 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold (Mary) Cook, Wisconsin Dells, Wis.; and many other relatives.
He is preceded in death by his son, Frederick Cook Jr. and his wife, Cheryl; son, John Cook; parents; two sisters and one brother.
