BOW VALLEY — Loretta Marie Schulte, 94, Bow Valley, died Jan. 19, 2016, at the Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, S.D.
Visitation and a Vigil service were Friday at the church, and resumed Saturday prior to services.
Mass of Christian Burial was Jan. 23 at the Holy Family (Sts. Peter and Paul) Catholic Church, Bow Valley, with Rev. Eric Olsen officiating.
Burial was in the Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Bow Valley.
Pallbearers were Aaron Ankeny, Audi Campbell, Jay Weatherill, Austin Kathol, Sarah Arens and Amy Kutilek.
The Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington, was in charge of arrangements.
Loretta was born Nov. 4, 1921, in rural Menominee, to John Henry and Maxalinda (Suing) Jansen. She grew up in the Menominee area and attended elementary school and received her GED after her children were raised. Loretta took a writing class and became very eloquent when writing about family events. She married Claudius H. Schulte Oct. 24, 1944, in Menominee. They farmed in the Bow Valley area. Loretta moved into Bow Valley in 2010, after Claudius died. She moved to the Park View Haven Nursing Home, Coleridge, in June 2015.
Loretta was a member of the Holy Family (Sts. Peter and Paul) Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, Bible Study Group and Rosary Club. She was a former 4H leader and enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers. She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter. Loretta dedicated her life to raising and caring for her family.
Loretta is survived by six children, Dennis (Ruth) Schulte, Lincoln; Linda (Al) Crane, Madison, S.D.; Leane (Sylvan) Thoene, Bow Valley; Claudette (Kevin) Ankeny, Yankton, S.D.; Don (Laurie) Schulte, Bow Valley; and Laurie (Alvin) Kathol, Bow Valley; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a brother, Clarence (Angela) Jansen, Fordyce; three sisters, Clara Rolfes, Wynot; Rita Sudbeck, Bow Valley; Lorraine (Leo) Schulte, Hartington; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Jansen, Crofton; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claudius, Sept. 28, 2010, at the age of 90; a daughter, Karen Ann Schulte, in 1971, at the age of 20; a son-in-law, Bruce Weatherill; four brothers, George, Martin (Alice), Elmer (Rosemary) and Leonard (Mary) Jansen; a sister, Angela (Francis) Leise; and two brothers-in-law, Al Rolfes and Marvin Sudbeck.
