CHICAGO, Ill. — John C. Mitchell Sr., 77, died March 7, 2016, at his home in Chicago, Ill.
Inurnment will be July 30, at 11 a.m., at the Lawn Ridge Cemetery, Coleridge, with Rev. Russ Lambert officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Coleridge.
John Charles Mitchell, Sr. was born May 17, 1938, in Chicago, to Charles and Belligot Mitchell. He graduated from Amundsen High School in 1955. He married Sue Hansen Dec. 13, 1962, and stayed in Chicago where they spent their life together. John joined the National Guard as an engineer for four years. He worked for Jays Potatoes chips for 10 years followed by Frito Lay for 30 years.
After Sue’s passing in 2004, he retired and waited the day to be with the love of his life.
John enjoyed being a parishioner at Martin Luther Church. An avid gardener, he took pride in his peach tree, traveled and loved to play cribbage. John loved the Hansen family so much and visited Coleridge frequently with his family, going to the dam, taking the ferry down the Missouri, the Sue dinosaur excavation, town anniversary, graduations, Indian reservations, church, etc. and being with family.
In his final years, he enjoyed being with his family, old friends and his special friends Don and Bev, along with meeting up with his new friends at Ernie’s Tap.
John is survived by his children Pauline (Russ) Altergott, Pamela Fejda, Patricia Fiorentino, Peggy (Tom) Geslicki, and John Jr. (Jennifer); 17 grandchildren and great-grandfather of three; many nieces and nephews and friends; and in-laws, Mike and Donna Hansen, Coleridge.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife and best friend, Sue; parents, Charles and Belligot Mitchell; sister, Estelle; and in-laws, Arnold and Kate Hansen, Roger Hansen, Shirley and Joe (Flynn) and Sally Johnson.
