Dorothy Helen (Lyons) Grone, daughter of Elmer and Vernice (Lute) Lyons, was born March 2, 1925, at the Lyons home farm south of Laurel. As a young girl, she was baptized at and attended Laurel United Methodist Church and the District 68 Flag School. Growing up, Dorothy especially enjoyed riding horses. Her lifelong love of music included playing piano for various church and school events. She graduated from Laurel High School in 1943, and was an excellent student. Dorothy married Edward Herman Grone March 9, 1947, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Wayne. The couple purchased the Grone family farm in 1950, and raised their four children there.
She worked as a secretary at the Wayne County courthouse for 27 years. Dorothy and Ed moved into Wayne in 1984. Dorothy then worked part-time at Wayne State College for 10 years.
She was very proud of her family and treasured her relationship with Ed. They enjoyed playing cards, belonging to several card clubs, square dancing, and were very active members of Our Savior Lutheran Church. Dorothy entered Brookdale, formerly The Oaks, in May 2008 and endeared herself to all the caretakers. She loved to read, do embroidery, and word search puzzles. Dorothy was a woman of strong faith, who lived by example and was a friend to everyone.
