CROFTON — Delwin C. Walter Sr., 56, Crofton, died Aug. 6, 2016, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, S.D.
Funeral services will be Aug. 10, at 12 p.m. at Discovery Church Yankton, S.D., with the Rev. Jon Cooke officiating.
Burial will be at Beaver View Cemetery, Crofton, following a luncheon.
Pallbearers will be Roger Lange, Gary Arens, Trevor Arens, Todd Taggart, Mike Schroeder and Matt Schroeder.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dale and Gary Guenther.
Delwin C. Walter was born Dec. 17, 1959, in Pierre, S.D., to Delmar J. and Patty Ann (Taggart) Walter. He grew up in Crofton and graduated from Crofton High School in 1978. He went to Community College in Sheldon, Iowa, for an associate’s degree, while playing football. He then went to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he played football for the Huskers while earning a bachelor’s degree. He married Robin G. Lottritz May 19, 1984, in Omaha. Delwin taught agriculture at Macy High School and at the Adjustment Training School, Plankinton, S.D. He moved back to Crofton to help his father farm and also worked at Gehl Manufacturing, Yankton. Delwin also taught Machine Tool at Mike Durfee State Prison and retired about 10 years ago.
Delwin loved tending to his farm and his livestock. He showed livestock and enjoyed teaching kids how to show at the county fairs. He was a power lifter through high school and college. Delwin was a current member of United Commercial Travelers and held local and state offices.
Survivors are his wife, Robin, Crofton; two children, Tamara Walter, Crofton, and D.C. Walter Jr., Crofton; special friends, Shirley and Darrell McCloud, Yankton, S.D.; brother, Delmar Walter Jr., Bloomfield; sister, Linda and Roger Klausen, Laurel; numerous nieces and nephews; uncle, Earl Tramp, Yankton, S.D.; aunt, Sandra Taggart and family, Yankton, S.D.; many cousins.
Delwin was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Joe and Emma Walter; and aunt, Dolores Tramp.
