Wakefield — Dean C. Salmon, 84, Wakefield, died July 26, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center, Sioux City, Iowa.
Visitation and a prayer service were July 29 at Salem Lutheran Church, Wakefield.
Funeral services were July 30 at Salem Lutheran Church, Wakefield; Pastor Barbara Hansen officiated.
Burial, with military honors, was in the Wakefield Cemetery.
Bressler – Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home, Wakefield, was in charge of the arrangements.
Dean was born May 8, 1932, in Concord, to Frederick and Helena (Mecke), being one of 15 children. He graduated from Concord High School in 1950. After graduating, he was drafted into the United States Army where he served 16 months, 1953-1954, with the 933rd Artillery Company in Incheon, Korea. Upon returning, he married Phyllis Johnson at Concordia Lutheran Church, Concord, June 23, 1957, and the couple had two children.
Dean worked for Salmon Well Company from 1950-2006, which was founded by his father and uncle in 1914.
He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, the American Legion, and was a fireman from 1963-1986, then becoming an honorary fireman.
Dean enjoyed fishing, woodworking, mowing the lawn, and attending morning and afternoon coffee. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Salmon, Wakefield; son, Bennett (Kathleen) Salmon, Wakefield, and daughter, LeAnn Miner, Wakefield; sisters, Mae Schwarten, Wakefield, and Mary Ann Garvin, Dixon; brother, Kenneth (Phyllis) Salmon, Wakefield; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Shad Miner; son-in-law, Vernie Miner; and siblings, Frederick W. Salmon, Allen Salmon, Ilene Andersen, Irene Manto, Helen Hattig, Leo Salmon, Harold Salmon, Elmer Salmon, Lucille Taylor, Caroline Gordon and Leonard Salmon.
Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.
