NORFOLK — Bonnie Haakenstad, 88, Norfolk, died July 4, 2016, at Spring Creek Assisted Living Center, Meridian, Idaho.
Visitation will be held 4-8 p.m., July 15, at the Stonacek Funeral Chapel, Norfolk.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., July 16, at the Stonacek Funeral Chapel, Norfolk, with Rev. Dustin Petz officiating.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m., at the Laurel City Cemetery, Laurel.
Casket bearers will be Tim Haakenstad, Jon Haakenstad, Sam Haakenstad and Corby Robinson.
Bonnie was born Dec. 6, 1928, in Seneca, to George and Rena (Paul) Schroeder. She was raised in the family sod house near Thedford, which was homesteaded by her grandfather, W.D. Paul. In 1935, they moved to a farm by Concord. She graduated from Concord High School in 1947, and from Wayne State College with a B.S. in home economics. After graduation she went to work as a teacher in Norfolk, and later, worked in Albion for the gas company as an educator/demonstrator. She married Sydney H. Haakenstad in 1958 in Laurel, and they lived in Albion until 1972, when they moved to Norfolk.
She was a member of the Norfolk First United Methodist Church, Christian Women’s United and Keystone Group.
Survivors include her son, Timothy George, and wife, Kiki, and grandchildren, Ellana, Omaha, and Alexandra, Sam and Victoria, Lincoln; son, Jon Stewart, and grandchildren, Zoe and Hana, Boise, Idaho; daughter, Salle Ann Robinson, and her husband, Corby, and grandchildren, Sydney and Corby Jake, Boise, Idaho; sisters-in-law, Virginia and Darlene; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Sydney Haakenstad, who died July 23, 2013; her parents; and her brothers, Cleo and Clayton.
