Obituary – Bob Schumacher

Screenshot 2016-09-06 20.38.32HARTINGTON — Robert Leon “Bob” Schumacher, 79, Hartington, died Aug. 30, 2016, at his residence, after a battle with cancer this past year.

Visitation and a prayer service were Sept. 2 at the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington, and continued Saturday, at church, one hour prior to services.

Funeral services were Sept. 3 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hartington, with the Rev. Amanda Talley officiating.

Burial was at the Hartington City Cemetery.

Bob was born in Osmond, April 17, 1937, the son of Robert Sr. and Leona (Buchholz) Schumacher. He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Osmond, May 9, 1937. He was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Plainview, March 21, 1951. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1954. In his early years after graduation, he worked at a concrete plant and at Ebinger Hardware, Plainview. He joined the Army National Guard in 1954 and was honorably discharged as a Platoon Sergeant May 23, 1963. Bob and Wanda Norris were married Aug. 25, 1959, at Stark Valley Methodist Church, south of Plainview, and they had three children, Beth, Michael and Rhonda.

Bob began working for Kansas-Nebraska Natural Gas Company Feb. 29, 1960, in Plainview, moving to Atkinson for three and one half years. He was transferred to Hartington in 1970, where he spent 25 years as District Manager for KN Energy before retiring April 17, 1995.

In his retirement, Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing. He also enjoyed driving vehicles for Pearson Motor, gardening and baking cakes for all the grandchildren on their birthdays, and making his family-famous peanut brittle during Christmas.

His passion was for his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed attending their school and sporting events and taking them fishing, golfing and hunting.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Hartington.

Bob is survived by his spouse of 57 years, Wanda, Hartington; three children, Beth (Joe) Wisnieski, Dodge; Michael (Cindy) Schumacher, Holdrege; Rhonda (Jody) Jensen, Morse Bluff; eight grandchildren, Ross Schumacher, Grand Island; Joe Wisnieski, Clarkson; Aimee (Aaron) Brown, Bar Nunn, Wyo.; Megan Jensen, Fremont; Shelby Kuehn, Hadar; Morgan Wisnieski, Little Rock, Ark.; Kelsey Jensen, David City; Benjamin Kuehn, Wayne; two great-grandchildren, Leighton and Ryker Brown; a sister, Eileen (Marvin) Vrooman, Tekamah; brothers-in-law, Ross Steele, Norfolk; Steve Norris, Plainview; and Donald (Teresa) Norris, Henderson; sisters-in-law, Shirley Schumacher, Blue Springs, Mo.; Norma Schumacher, Red Oak, Iowa; Shirley Schumacher, Columbus; Anita (Darrell) Krei, Ankeny, Iowa; and Rosena Norris, Plainview; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons, Josten and Robby Schumacher; four brothers, Rodger, Allen, Melvin and Larry Schumacher; one sister, Norma Steele; and brothers-in-law, Roger Norris and Willis Anderson.
