Obituary – Alan J. Arens

Grand Island — Alan J. Arens, 58, Grand Island, died Oct. 1, 2016, at CHI- Health St. Francis, Grand Island.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Oct. 5, at All Faiths Funeral Home, Grand Island, with a 7 p.m. Vigil service.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Oct. 6, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Wynot, with Fr.  Eric Olson officiating.

Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Wynot.

All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family.

Alan was born Feb. 7, 1958, in Yankton, S.D., son of Arlo and Arthella (Ohm) Arens. He was raised on the family farm near Hartington where he graduated in 1976. Continuation his education, Alan attended Northeast Tech following high school. He was soon employed by Southern Power, where he continued as a lineman until retiring due to his health.

In his younger years, Alan enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping trips with his children.  Alan loved to be outdoors, spending time with his beloved animals and tinkering on small engines. He was an avid reader and was especially fond of geology books. He looked forward to starting new hobbies and cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren.

Alan is survived by his children, Brandy Mancinas and Mike (Faithe Nichols) Arens, both of Grand Island; mother, Arthella Arens, Hartington; sister, Angela Arens, Hartington; mother of his children, Karen Arens, Grand Island; grandchildren, Mya Arens, Brian Arens, Sofia Alvarez, Daniel Mancinas, Leticia Mancinas, Cesar Mancinas and Javier Perez; along with numerous extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, and brother, Austin Arens.
