Hartington — The weekend heat didn’t stop bakers from whipping up prize-winning pies.
There were 16 entries in Sunday’s Best Pie in Cedar County contest at the Cedar County Fairgrounds.
“I’m surprised we have as many pies as we do in this heat,” said Mitzi Heine, a volunteer assisting with pie registration. “I didn’t think anyone would be in the mood for baking.”
But evidently the participants’ love for pie baking was enough to get them into their kitchens.
“(The heat) didn’t stop me,” said contest participant Phyllis Thompson. “I just enjoy the Fair, and I enjoy cooking.”
Thompson’s pie was declared the contest Grand Champion. To find out who won had the winning pies in each of the contest categories are as follows: please follow this link: Pie Contest
