A chill in the air

Hoar frost, formed by direct condensation of water vapor to ice, transformed Northeast Nebraska into a huge piece of tundra art Monday morning. All trees, shrubs, bushes and fences had a white coating of ice on them when area residents awoke Monday. The National Weather Service is predicting high temperatures just above freezing for the rest of this week. As of Monday, the NWS forecast indicated there is an 80 percent chance of snow on Friday.
