LAUREL — Food, music, games and fun were all part of the “Rocking for Cures” Relay for Life event that took place in Laurel Friday night.
Although the most important part of the evening was the support offered to the cancer survivors and the opportunity to remember a loved one who had lost the fight.
Over $41,300 in funds was raised for the American Cancer Society in the fight against the dreaded disease.
Cancer survivors clothed in their purple “painting the world purple with hope” t-shirts took the first lap, known as the victory lap, around the track at the Haskell Field. At the end of the evening, each survivor was able to take home a rock with their name written on it as a remembrance of the Relay for Life “Rocking for Cures” event.
Caretakers joined the survivors for the second lap at the Relay for Life of Cedar County event. The caretakers were told they were being honored “for the difference they were making in the lives of others.”
