LINCOLN — Cedar Catholic found out Thursday night exactly why Hastings St. Cecilia came into this week’s Class C2 State Tourney as the number-one seed.
The Bluehawks jumped out early, then bombed away enroute to a big 67-50 first-round win Thursday night over the Trojans.
The loss ends a great season for Cedar — a season which saw the Trojans once again produce at least 18 wins on the year and make a state tournament appearance for the sixth time in seven years,
The Bluehawks got on the board first Thursday with a Derek Boyd jumper. Tbey built a 5-0 lead before James Kaiser hit on a jumper to put Cedar on the board there minutes into the game. St. Cecilia then just kept showing their offensive weapons as they raced out to a 19-6 first-quarter advantage.
The Hastings team kept widening the lead until the final frame when Cedar was able to outscore the C2 powerhouse 17-10.
The Trojans were led by James Kaiser, who poured in 21 points in the final high school basketball game of his career.
