Preschool to become a reality here

Hartington — The Hartington-Newcastle School Board voted Monday to proceed with plans to start a preschool at the Hartington Elementary School similar to what began last fall in Newcastle.

Elementary principal Sarah Edwards reported at Monday’s meeting that she had completed the grant application to help get the program started. Because of the consolidation, however, the district does not qualify for the three-year matching grant funds only available to schools that don’t have a preschool already in place. Since Newcastle’s pre-school is up and running and was in operation prior to consolidation, Hartington only qualifies for a one-year grant.
