Wausa — Dean A. Schaller, 71, Wausa died March 14, 2015, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
There is no visitation.
Memorial services were March 21 with private family inurnment at a later date. The Rev. Clark Jenkinson will officiate. Military rites will be by American Legion Post 16, VFW Post 1644 both of Norfolk, and the United States Army Honors Guard.
Dean was born July 1, 1943, at Ainsworth, to Cecil John and Georgia Ann (King) Schaller. He attended School District 17 between Long Pine and Ainsworth High School to the ninth grade. Dean was born in Ainsworth but grew up on ranch south of Long Pine. The family moved to Long Pine in 1948.
In 1956, the family moved to Buffalo Flats. Dean then moved to Bloomfield in the spring of 1960 and lived on Grandpa Smith’s place. He served in the United States Army Dec. 2, 1960-Nov. 21, 1963. Basic training was done at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. Later, he was moved to Ft. Gordon, Ga., for advanced training to be a military policeman. He served with the Security Department for two and one-half years with the CIA in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1963, the same time President John F. Kennedy was killed. Dean moved to California after the service and met Judy Edwards, who he married in 1963. In 1967, he moved back to Nebraska.
Judy passed away in 1977. Dean was married in 1975 to Joyce Krueger. In 1987, he married Betty Speidel.
Dean was an amazing father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. Dean’s favorite career was farming. He loved living in the country and enjoyed the peace and quiet it brought. Dean was known for his humor and always enjoyed a great game of poker.
Survivors include children, Greg and wife, Deb Schaller, Norfolk; Deanna Schaller, Norfolk; Tim and April Schaller, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Teresa Rangel, Lincoln; Kristin and spouse, Greg Yeley. Wichita, Kan.; 20 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Don Schaller, Cocoa Beach, Fla.; Will Schaller, Norfolk; sisters, Carol Jones, Ainsworth, and Georgia McKibbon, Norfolk.
He was preceded in death by parents, Cecil and Georgia; brother, Jim Schaller; brother-in-law, Dave Jones; sister-in-law, Velda Schaller; grandson, Tyler Anderson; ex-wife, Judy Edwards; and ex-wife, Betty Schaller.
