Laurel — Clay Heydon, 78, Laurel, died Feb. 17, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center, Sioux City, Iowa.
Visitation and a Prayer Service were Feb. 22 at United Presbyterian Church, Laurel.
Funeral services were Feb. 23 at United Presbyterian Church, Laurel, with Rev. Todd Thelen officiating.
Honorary Pallbearers were Clay’s grandchildren and great-grandson, Krystal Schindler, Melanie Schindler, Lacey Schindler, Aiden Schindler, Lindsay Heydon, Timothy Heydon, Saylor Heydon and Dustin Smith.
Active Pallbearers were Tyler Schindler, Skyler Heydon, Christopher Heydon, Lucas Heydon, Dan Hansen and Gerald Hodgson.
Interment, with Military Rites, was at Laurel Cemetery. Laurel.
Arrangements were under the direction of Hasemann Funeral Home, Laurel.
Clay LeRoy Heydon was born March 22, 1936, at Wakefield to Carroll and Alma (Jensen) Heydon. He graduated from Laurel High School in 1953. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, entering in 1956 and receiving his honorable discharge in 1963. Clay married Verjean Mae Wetrosky March 30, 1963, in LeMars, Iowa. The couple farmed near Laurel for many years.
Clay was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and Laurel American Legion.
Clay is survived by his wife, Verjean; their children, Brent (Michelle) Heydon, June Schindler (Larry Lueders), and Dean Heydon, all of Laurel; grandchildren, Krystal, Melanie, Tyler, Lacey and Aiden Schindler, Lindsay, Christopher, Lucas, Timothy, Skylar and Saylor Heydon; great-grandson, Dustin Smith; brothers, Craig (Mary) Heydon, Roswell, Ga.; Clark (Maryanna) Heydon, Wessington Springs, S.D.; and Lyle (Mary) Heydon, Bladen; and nieces and nephews.
Clay was preceded in death by his parents, and nephew, Scott Heydon.
