Knee injuries end season for two local high school athletes

HARTINGTON —  No matter how hard an athlete trains, conditions and protects the outer extremities—knees, ankles and shoulders are only supposed to move in one direction.

Two Hartington athletes recently suffered injuries to their knees putting them out of action  until sometime in the spring.

Senior plans came to a halt after Cedar Catholic center and defensive tackle Austin Koch blew out his knee during the first practice day with full pads in early August.


Shelby Hochstein, a senior at Hartington-Newcastle, was going up to spike the ball during the Wynot Volleyball Tournament on Sept. 4. She must have come down on it wrong as she .

“The scream said it all,” said Kristi Hochstein, Shelby’s mother.
