The Regular meeting of the Chairman and Board of Trustees of the Village of St. Helena, Nebraska was held on August 11, 2014 at 6:30 P.M. at the St. Helena Village Hall. Notice of the meeting was given in advance by posting in three public places within the Village of St. Helena.
Present were Chairman Victor Paltz, Trustees Jody Albrecht, Jen Miller, Clair Wieseler and Clerk Paula Pinkelman. Loren Bender was absent.
Minutes of the July 7, 2014 meeting were read and approved with a motion by Jen Miller and seconded by Jody Albrecht with all in favor.
A motion was made by Jody Albrecht and seconded by Clair Wieseler to approve the financial report as read with all in favor.
The following claims were submitted for payment for the month of August: General Fund: St. Helena Store $28.89, Cedar-Knox PPD $275.78, Northeast Nebraska News Company $32.30, One Call Concepts, Inc. $7.00, Victor Paltz $606.87, Paula Pinkelman $323.33, EMC Insurance Companies $1,281.43, Butch’s Propane $1,169.25. Water Fund: Cedar-Knox PPD $19.81, Nebraska Rural Water Assn. $100.00, Victor Paltz $18.57. A motion was made by Jen Miller and seconded by Clair Wieseler to pay the bills for this month with all in favor.
Victor Paltz gave a status update on the water meters that were to be ordered to replace existing older water meters that are currently in use. The company that the meters are purchased through reported the supply they had sold out. They suggested that other resellers may have meter readouts or there could be another online source where they could be purchased.
There was discussion in regards to contracting propane for the upcoming winter season. The clerk presented the quotes from different companies in the area. It was decided to contact Butch’s Propane in regards to a contract for the winter season. The clerk will call Butch’s Propane to get a current contract and return the contract to the company once it’s been completed.
There was a recommendation of hauling in base course gravel or crushed asphalt on the east side of the church to raise the road and help with water drainage. Clair Wieseler made a motion to make the repairs to the street and Jen Miller seconded the motion with all in favor.
The St. Helena Social Club requested a 1-day Liquor License to allow them to sell alcohol at an upcoming event on September 13, 2014. Clair Wieseler made a motion to approve the license and Jen Miller seconded the motion with all in favor.
Victor Paltz will contact James Steel in regards to putting a gutter on the west side of the Village Hall/Post Office and have them adjust the existing gutter on the east side of the building.
The next meeting will be September 8, 2014 at 6:30 P.M. With no further business to discuss Jody Albrecht made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:45 P.M. and Clair Wieseler seconded the motion with all in favor.
