COLERIDGE — Roger Jerome Haberer, 56, Coleridge, died Aug. 28, 2014, as a result of an accident on a fishing trip in Canada.

Visitation and a vigil service were Sept. 7 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington, and continued Monday at the church, one hour prior to services.

Mass of Christian Burial was Sept. 8 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington, with the Rev. David Liewer officiating.

Burial was at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Coleridge.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Coleridge.

Pallbearers were nephews, Brad Wemhoff, Anthony Dirks, Monte Frerichs, Jay Wemhoff, Curt Wemhoff, Bryan Kalin, Travis Kalin, Michael Wolfe, Tom Wemhoff, Aaron Kalin, Josh Wolfe, Carter Krei and Clint Wemhoff.

Honorary pallbearers were Paul Wemhoff, Craig Frerichs, Steve Dirks, Robert Kalin, Terry Krei, Terry Burbach, Jeff Wolfe, CD Feedlot past and present employees, Hefner Oil bowling team, and all of Roger’s family and friends.

Roger Jerome was born Nov. 27, 1957, in Yankton, S.D., to Jerome A. and Lucille M. (Schwartz) Haberer. He grew up in Coleridge and graduated from Coleridge High School in 1976. Roger married Cindy Lou Burbach Oct. 4, 1980. He farmed until 1999 and then began working at CD Feedlots near Hartington. He was a dedicated employee and a respected co-worker.

Roger was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, and previously served on the church board, cemetery board, and as a CCD teacher. He was an active EME for the church, and participated and worked the Christian’s Encounter Christ. He was on the Osmond General Hospital Board, Hartington Golf Board and Coleridge School Board.

Roger enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, along with golfing, bowling, card playing, hunting and fishing, gardening, mowing and farming. His favorite things were trips to Bomgaars, feeding his birds and squirrels, watching the Huskers, and currently being the “COACH” of his bowling team.

Roger is survived by his wife Cindy, Coleridge; three children, Chris Haberer, Wausa; Sonia Haberer, Norfolk; and Amy and husband, Kevin Burns, Wausa; four sisters and spouses, Diane and Paul Wemhoff, Susan and Craig Frerichs, Nancy and Steve Dirks, Sharon and Bill Hirschman; Cindy’s parents, Duane and LaDonna Burbach, Coleridge; Cindy’s siblings and spouses, Connie and Robert Kalin, Linda and Terry Krei, Terry and Jacie Burbach, Carol and Jeff Wolfe; and several nieces and nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Lucille Haberer, and two nieces, Teri Dirks and Renae Kalin.
