SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Twenty and counting.
That’s the Wynot Expos’ streak of State Class B Amateur Baseball Tournament appearances.
The Expos have made it to the state tournament every year now since 1994.
The Expos will get the honor of opening this year’s State Class B Amateur Baseball Tournament.
Wynot will take on Wessington Springs Wednesday night at 6 p.m. in the Sioux Falls Stadium.
If Wynot comes out on top in that contest, the Expos will take on the winner of the Plankinton- Akron, Iowa game at 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
The only other area team in the State Tourney, Crofton, will take on Lake Norden on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Check out www.hartington.net for the complete bracket and game updates.
Wynot earned a berth to the State Tournament by advancing out of the nine-team District 6 Amateur Baseball Tournament at Scotland.
The Expos stumbled in the District opener as seventh-seeded Freeman earned a 6-2 win over the second-seeded Expos in Scotland Friday, July 26.
Wynot bounced back to defeat Scotland 10-0 on Saturday.
Brett Wiebelhaus kept Scotland batters guessing all game long as he tossed a three-hit shutout for the win.
The Expos were led at the plate in the contest by Lee Heimes, who collected two hits on the night, one of them a homer. Scott Heimes and Chase Rolfes also collected two hits each in the contest.
Wynot 021 005 2 — 10 8 1
Scotland 000 000 0 — 0 3 5
