HARTINGTON — Matt Davison followed the speaker’s handbook to a tee Friday night.
He scored big points in front of the Msgr. Werner Activity Center crowd when he talked about his friendship with national championship teammate and friend Russ Hochstein of Hartington.
He scored again when he talked about the work ethic he witnessed from Hartington’s Craig Wortmann when the pair played together on the University of Nebraska basketball team.
Davison opened his 45-minute speech in front of the Cedar Catholic Booster Club with a couple of jokes to loosen up the crowd. He then talked about a subject everyone in the audience was dying to hear more about — Husker football.
Davison, who became one of the heroes of the 1997 Nebraska Cornhusker national championship team when he made an unbelievable catch as time ran out to defeat Missouri, then talked about the play that put him into the national headlines.
After that it was time to get serious, as he told an audience of over 250 students, coaches and parents about what it takes to succeed in sports and in today’s competitive world.
