HARTINGTON — For the second year in a row, the Hartington Wildcats will start the football season a week ahead of most of the other teams in the State.
Hartington will host Humphrey High School in the season-opener at Russ Hochstein Field on Aug. 30.
The Wildcats hung a 33-14 setback on Humphrey in last year’s game. That was the first time the two teams had ever met on the field. It was also the first of nine straight wins by the Wildcats last season.
Hartington ended the 2012 regular season with a perfect 8-0 record. The Cats then earned a 38-7 playoff win over Pender to earn their first-ever playoff victory.
Coach Blair Kalin is charged with trying to replace a talented senior class off of last year’s squad. Twenty-nine athletes showed up for the first day of practice Monday.
