HARTINGTON — When Cedar Catholic opens the new football season Sept. 6 at Oakland, it will be just the first of many games the Trojans have this year with teams that not only made playoffs last year, but went deep into the post-season.
Cedar opens the 2013 season at Oakland-Craig — a team that has had the Trojans’ number as of late.
The Cedar Catholic and Oakland-Craig series is not a long-lived rivalry, but it has been a fierce one.
Since the two squads first met up, the Knights have won three of the four games.
Cedar’s lone victory against the Orange and Black came in last year’s thrilling home-opener. The Trojans came from behind in that contest to earn the 29-28 decision.
The teams first met on the gridiron in 2010 with the Knights earning a 36-20 win on their home turf. The next year, the Knights defeated Cedar 20-13 at Russ Hochstein Field, then topped the Trojans again, 20-19, in the playoffs.
