Area teams earn pre-season rankings

HARTINGTON — Three Cedar County football teams will begin the 2013 season rated in the Top 10 in at least one of the three major state-wide polls.

Cedar Catholic will open the season rated seventh in the state by the Huskerland Prep Report and rated ninth by the Omaha World Herald.

Randolph will open the 2013 campaign rated 10th in Class D1 poll by the Omaha World Herald.

Wynot is rated seventh in the first Omaha World Herald poll of the season and 10th in the Huskerland Prep Report D2 pre-season poll.

Randolph will once again face a very tough schedule. The Cardinals open on the road against defending D1 state champion Elgin/Pope John. They will travel to perennial powerhouse Howells-Dodge, Sept. 13. The Cards also face HPS, another playoff team from 2012, Oct. 18

Besides their trademark red and white, the Cardinals have another similarity to the Nebraska Cornhusker football team this year. They feature a four-year starter at quarterback. Nolan Nordhues will once again line up under center for Randolph.
