HARTINGTON — Sarah M. Meyer, 103, Hartington, died Aug. 19, 2013, at the Golden Living Center, Hartington.
Visitation and a vigil service were Aug. 22 at the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington, and continued Friday at the church.
Mass of Christian Burial was Aug. 23 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington, with the Rev. Jeffery Loseke officiating.
Burial was at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Hartington.
Pallbearers were Sarah’s grandchildren, Lisa Madarassy, Robert Meyer, Larry Meyer, Jodie McCoy, Brenda Srejma, Peggy Meyer, Steve Meyer, Jill Bena and Amanda Potts.
Honorary pallbearers were her great-grandchildren.
Sarah Maria Meyer was born Jan. 10, 1910, at Fordyce, to Frank and Anna (Asbra) Lange. She was baptized and grew up in the Fordyce area where she attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and School. She worked for area families as well as helping with her younger siblings. Sarah married Frank Meyer Sept. 14, 1937, in Fordyce. They farmed in the Hartington area and later Sarah worked at the Human Services Center, Yankton, S.D.
She was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Guild, Christian Mothers, Ministry of Praise, and Perpetual Adoration.
Sarah enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends, gardening and playing cards.
Sarah is survived by her four sons: Gerald and friend, Sherry Bear, Hartington; Edwin Meyer, Hartington; Ken and Mary Meyer, Moorhead, Minn.; and Bill and Pat Meyer, Hartington; nine grandchildren, Lisa Madarassy, Robert Meyer, Larry Meyer, Jodie McCoy, Brenda Srejma, Peggy Meyer, Steve Meyer, Jill Bena and Amanda Potts; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank, who died June 28, 1962, at the age of 61; two daughters-in-law, Alice Meyer and Betty Meyer; brothers, Art Lange, and Reinold, and his wife, Dorothy Lange; sisters, Leona Haberman, and her husband, Tony, and Cordula Bonertz and her husband, Ted; and granddaughter, Cheryl Meyer.
