South Gate, Calif. — Rudolph John Burbach, 94, South Gate, Calif., died Aug. 14, 2013, at his home. Funeral services were at St. Raymond’s Catholic Church, with Rev. John Higgins officiating, and burial at All Saint’s Cemetery.
Rudy was born May 31, 1919, to Werner and Theresa Burbach. He attended rural and Holy Trinity Schools, and worked at Hartington Creamery until joining the Army in February 1941. He served in European Theatre, seeing action in France and Germany. He was discharged Oct. 10, 1945. Rudy married Gail Stock Aug. 24, 1943, in South Gate, Calif. After the military, he worked at a dairy making ice cream until retirement in 1983. Rudy and Gail had four children and with Gail’s death in June 1970, he was left to raise three teenage children alone. He was a devoted father.
Rudy enjoyed being with his family and all of his grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening, his roses, woodworking, card-playing and, after retiring, golf and some traveling.
He lived in his own home his entire life. With illness in early 2013, his family cared for him in his home.
Rudy is survived by his daughters and spouses, Maureen and Downey, California; and Judy and Mike Redmond, Santa Clarita, Calif.; twin sons, Bob and Susie Burbach, Tehachapi, Calif., and Tom and Karen Burbach, Riverside, Calif.; nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild; brother and wife, Reiny and Martha Burbach, North Platte; sisters and husbands, Rosemary and Emery White, Sisseton, S.D., Monica Moser, Bellevue; and Rita and Roley Isom, Randolph; sister-in-law, Eleanor Burbach, Yankton, S.D.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gail; parents, Werner and Theresa Burbach; siblings, Julius and Bernice, Peta, Theodore, Gerald and Mary, Leone and Ferdy.
