Obituary – N. Evolyn Rathgeber

COLERIDGE — Nancy Evolyn Rathgeber, 91, Coleridge, died July 17, 2013, at The Embers Assisted Living, Coleridge.

Visitation, with a Prayer Service, were Friday at the Wintz Funeral Home, Coleridge, and continued one hour prior to service Saturday at the church.

Funeral services were July 20 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Coleridge, with Rev. Katherine Russell officiating.

Burial was in Lawn Ridge Cemetery, Coleridge.

Pallbearers were Brad Brodersen, Reed Brodersen, Mitch Johnson, Chuck Rathgeber, Ashley Rathgeber, Alexa Johnson and Kameron Rathgeber.

Evolyn was born July 3, 1922, at Wausa, to Jesse Leo and Lula (Russell) Hight. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Coleridge, and grew up in the Coleridge area. She married Emmett Rathgeber Jan. 1, 1940, in Coleridge. They farmed in the Coleridge area from 1940-1947, and then moved and farmed in the Carroll, Iowa, area from 1947-1955. They moved back to Coleridge where they continued farming until moving into Coleridge in 1964. Evolyn then worked at the Coleridge Nursing Home for three years, was a bookkeeper at Hansen Implement for three years and then worked as a teller at the Coleridge National Bank for 14 years, retiring in 1984. She has been a resident of The Embers Assisted Living since May 2012.

Evolyn was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and the ILCW; the Peace Circle, and belonged to several card clubs, including the Social Circle and the Busy Homemakers. She and Emmett liked to travel in their motor home and she enjoyed gardening, sewing and crocheting.

Evolyn is survived by four children, Joyce Seyl, Fremont; Adrian and wife, A. Jane Rathgeber, Hadar; Glen and wife, Sandy Rathgeber, Loveland, Colo.; Connie Rathgeber, Sioux City, Iowa; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; three brothers and wives, Myrl and Sylvia Hight, Denison, Iowa; Niel and Betty Hight, Scranton, Iowa; Elton and Miriam Hight, Lake City, Iowa; a sister, Darie Heck, Littleton, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Roena Hight, Scottsbluff; and a brother-in-law, Martin Erickson, Auburn, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Emmett, Feb. 23, 2005, at the age of 86; a granddaughter, Kim Hauseth; four sisters, Edna Milligan, Jessie Heck, Vera Anderson and Leola Erickson; and two brothers, Irvin “Roy” Hight and Russell Hight.
