Obituary – Lois Ankeny

Laurel — Lois Ankeny, 89, Laurel, died Sept. 25, 2013, at Hillcrest Care Center, Laurel.

Visitation was Sept. 29 at United Methodist Church, Laurel.

Funeral services were Sept. 30 at United Methodist Church Laurel, with Rev. Jaime Farias officiating.

Honorary pallbearers were Lois’s great-grandchildren, Abby, Ethan, Calvin and Clara Ankeny; Olivia, Hudson and Lincoln Blair; Peyton Huetig; Alex, Grace, Kaelyn and Maxsen Ankeny; and Brody and Kasen Soden.

Active pallbearers were Dustin Ankeny, Josh Ankeny, Christopher Ankeny, Dustin Soden, Jason Frauendorfer, Dave Abts, Richard Abts and John Abts.

Interment was at Concord Cemetery, Concord.

Arrangements were under the direction of Hasemann Funeral Home, Laurel.

Lois Adene Kelley Ankeny, daughter of Oscar and Janie (Robson) Kelley, was born Jan. 6, 1924, on a farm northeast of Dixon. She graduated in 1941 from Dixon Public School, and went on to attend Wayne Teacher’s College. She taught in country schools in Dixon County and in the Belden School. Lois married Ronald Ankeny Feb. 14, 1948, at the Methodist Church in Dixon. They farmed north of Dixon, and Lois lived there until she moved to Hillcrest Assisted Living in 2010.

Lois was a member of the Dixon United Methodist Church until its closing. She continued to be a member of Dixon United Methodist Women and then became a member of the United Methodist Church, Laurel. She enjoyed spending time with her family, growing violets, writing news for local newspapers, quilting, doing puzzles and taking part in church activities.

Lois is survived by two sons and spouses, Donald and Loryn Ankeny, Chicago, Ill., and Joe and Mary Ankeny, Dixon; one daughter and husband, Margaret “Maggie” and Scott Huetig, Concord; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, in 2006, seven brothers and sisters, and one grandchild.

Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
