HARTINGTON — A few months ago, a South Dakota man was called by God to make a rather unusual expedition.

The message from above came to Brady Knight, Huron, S.D., that he should journey 1,900 miles. His destination, the Celebrate Community Church, San Rafael, Mexico.

But he wouldn’t be flying, riding a bus or driving to get there. Rather, he is traveling by horse and buggy, with a few animal friends, too.

“I get more excited every day,” Knight said, even though he’s never sure what obstacles might pop up along the way.

Knight was born in Vermillion, S.D., and went to school there through his sophomore year. He graduated from Winner High School in 1994, but did not pursue college after getting into a bad car accident his senior year.

Since graduating high school, he has worked as a carpenter, for himself and others, owned a construction business and done various odd jobs in both areas.

Then, two years ago, one night forever changed his life. He got into a skirmish and received major head injuries and a broken jaw in two places.

As a result, Knight was placed on disability because part of his brain could no longer function normally. Yet, he said God was just getting started and had a major plan in store for this 38-year-old man.
