HARTINGTON — Mayor Brad Peitz has yet to reveal his selection to fill the City Council vacancy left by Tim Burbach.
Peitz announced Burbach’s resignation at the July 8 City Council meeting. Burbach had been missing from several of the recent meetings and stepped down for “personal reasons,” Peitz said.
In a July 15 interview, City Attorney Steve Pier explained the process for choosing a person to fill the spot and said the Mayor had one month to present a candidate for the Council.
He added if the Council rejects this selection, then Peitz will continue presenting people until someone has been accepted.
Lash Chaffin, an attorney from the League of Municipalities in Lincoln, confirmed this was the suggested time frame and procedure in a phone interview Monday.
