Wynot opens State Tny. tonight

MITCHELL, S.D. — The Wynot Expos begin their bid Wednesday for a third South Dakota Amateur Baseball title.
The Expos, 17-9, will take on Colman at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Class B State Tny opener at Mitchell’s Cadwell Park.
Wynot rival and defending champion Crofton competes in its first tournament game on Friday at 1 p.m., taking on Garretson.
The field of 32 Class B teams will take part in a 12-day single elimination tournament to crown a state champion.

Wynot is looking to rebound after a poor outing in the District 6B Tournament.
The Expos opened District play with an easy 10-0 win over Scotland.
The Expos, seeded second in the tourney, dropped a close 5-4 decision to third-seeded Tabor in the next game, sending them into the Loser’s Bracket.
Wynot stumbled in their next contest, though falling  22-4 to Irene. Irene had two huge early innings to take command of the contest.
The win gave Irene an automatic state tourney berth.
Wynot had to defeat Lesterville on Saturday to earn the fourth and final South Central League spot in the tourney. Crofton and Tabor also qualified out of the South Central League.
Wynot was led at the plate by a trio of athletes.
Lee Heimes collected three hits, while Steve Heimes went 2-3 with a home run, and Matt Hames went 2-3 with two RBI. Justin Leise was saddled with the loss for Wynot.
Wynot beat Lesterville 4-2 Saturday to advance to the tournament.
The Expos were helped to the win by five early Lesterville errors. Scott Heine paced the Wynot offense with a pair of hits and an RBI. Lance Heine, Matt Hames, Chase Rolfes, Todd Pinkelman and Ryan Heimes also earned hits for Wynot in the contest.
Scott Morrison took the win on the mound for the Expos.
