HARTINGTON — The Cedar Catholic football team will have something to prove Thursday night at Russ Hochstein Field.
The Trojans will start the 2012 high school football season against Oakland-Craig, a team that beat Cedar twice last year.
Oakland-Craig picked up a win in the season opener, the Knights then ended the season with a playoff defeat against Cedar.
That history is one of the few things the two teams have in common, however.
Both teams should look vastly different this year, as both graduated a lot of talented players from last year’s squads.
“Although it’s a rematch of the two schools, both teams will look different because of the personnel on the field,” Cedar Catholic Coach Chad Cattau said. “They return some very good players though, so I know they will be really good.”
The Trojans will feature a new starting quarterback as junior Taylor Kathol will take the reigns.”
“Taylor has done an excellent job so far in practice,” Cattau said. “He has really stepped up as one of our vocal leaders. Each day he continues to get a little bit better at all the things we need out of him. We will need him to continue to improve each week, though.”
The backfield should feature a potent mix. Frank Herbolsheimer, who led the Trojans’ rushing attack as a sophomore, is back at running back. He will be joined in the backfield by his twin brother, Steve Herbolsheimer, at fullback.
Speedy sophomore Ryan Becker is also expected to see time in the backfield this season.
