Lady Wildcats top Osmond for L&C Tny title

HARTINGTON — The Hartington Lady Wildcats picked up the first-place trophy in the Lewis and Clark Conference Tourney last week.

The Hartington girls dominated Osmond to claim the team title.

The Lady Cats went on to pick up their 14th straight win of the season Monday night in SubDistrict play by defeating Pender.

Hartington improved to 22-5 on the year with the SubDistrict win. The Lady Cats took on Allen in the SubDistrict title game Tuesday.

The winner of that contest will then take on the winner of the West Point Guardian Angels and Howells-Dodge D1-5 SubDistrict title game. Check for more on the Allen game and any other post-season contests.

The Cats got off to a fast start Friday against Osmond, dominating the Lady Tigers in the first set for a 25-14 win.

Hartington then took a 25-20 win in the second set, but could not maintain their momentum in the third set, as Osmond stormed back for the 25-22 win to stay alive.

Osmond then sent it into a fifth and deciding set with a 25-16 win in the fourth set.

The two teams battled evenly in the fifth set before Hartington was able to pull out the 15-13 win.

Sophomore Savannah Scoville sparked the surge with two straight kills.

“I told the girls Osmond would come back,” Schreiber said. “They are too good of a team. We have played them three times this season and I knew the match was far from over. We have had trouble in the third set of matches and then we usually come back and take the match in the fourth set. Not tonight, they are way too good and we had to hang on in the fifth.”

“What a great victory. We worked hard, played hard, fought hard and came out with a victory,” said Coach Schreiber. “These girls deserve  this because they have worked hard all year. The coaches are so proud of the team.”

Michaela Dendinger was a real monster at the net for the Lady Cats, slamming 19 kills at Osmond. Shelby Hochstein also had a solid night, punching 12 kills over the net. Courtney Hochstein set up the offense with 36 assists.

The Hartington defense was led by Ashley Morten’s 18 digs and the blocking of Michaela Dendinger and Samantha Huss, who slammed back three blocks each.
