LAUREL — The Hartington boys’ golf team competed at a traingular in Ponca and at the Laurel Invitational last week.
Cedar Catholic won the 19-team invitational, while Hartington finished tenth.
Ethan Steiner paced the Wildcat golfers at both events. He carded a 44 at Ponca and a 48 at the Laurel meet.
Wildcat Coach Ken Kneifl said the weather played a big role on Thursday.
“It was a tough day to score because of the weather. Still, I was pleased with how the kids competed. I think we again learned some new things about playing high school golf in the spring in Nebraska,” Coach Kneifl said.
The Ponca match brought some shortfalls to the surface, Kneifl said.
“We simply had too many penalty strokes,” Kneifl said. That, and we still need to get a lot more consistant in the short game.”
The Wildcat team will be in action again Thursday when they travel to O’Neill.
