LAUREL — The Cedar Catholic golf team made it three in a row last week.
Cedar won a triangular at Ponca and claimed the victory at the Laurel tournament Thursday.
Cedar not only had to beat the other 13 teams at Laurel Thursday, but had to battle the weather, as well.
“The weather was far from ideal, and the tourney was shortened to nine holes,” Johnson said.
Eric Kruse fired a 39 on the day to claim medalist honors at Laurel.
Coach Johnson was happy with his team’s effort for the week.
“We had a very good week. At Ponca we had a few too many penalty strokes, but the kids did a good job of not letting that affect them for the rest of the day. This was the first time that many of these kids have seen that course. The JV kids played really well at Ponca,” he said.
The win at Laurel is a tremendous shot of confidence for the team, Johnson said.
“I am very proud of how the kids battled all day long. When it’s cold and wet, it’s easy to give up and just want to be done. All five of them did a great job of staying with it mentally, and the payoff was a win. It’s quite an accomplishment to have four of our golfers finish in the top 15 individually. Eric played real solid golf all day long, and won his first individual title. Seth got off to a bit of a rough start, but played really well over his last six holes. Dalton, Kyle, and Derek all had good days for us as well.
The Trojans competed at Pierce Monday and will be in action again Thursday at the O’Neill Invitational, before heading to Norfolk Saturday for the MidState Conference Tourney.
The Cedar JV squad will be at the Osmond Invitational on Saturday.
